For this presentation of the ArtNow! series at MOCA Tucson, Sharon Louden will present different models for cultural production as explored in her book “The Artist as Culture Producer, the second in a series of “Living and Sustaining a Creative Life” books published by Intellect Books and distributed by the University of Chicago Press. She will discuss how artists extend their practices outside of their studios, the roles artists play as change agents in the creative economy, models of sustaining creative lives in the public realm, redefining who a contemporary artist is today, and exploring what success means to different artists. ArtNow! gives audiences the opportunity to share thoughts on the wildly disparate practices and objects collectively known as “the art of our time.” Guests are encouraged to participate, share, and engage in this playful rendition upending the traditional art history lecture format.
