As part of the Troubador Concert series, the Presidio San Agustín del Tucson Museum hosts Gertie Lopez, who will perform classic waila tunes (otherwise known as "chicken scratch" music) with her band the T.O. Boyz. The concert will be presented as a music-circle cook-out with room for dancing and fun, and a special surprise guest artist will open the concert. Beer, wine and cook-out fare will be available for sale. Lopez grew up in the Sif-oidak District of the Tohono O'odham Nation and has been a musical performer most of her life, playing waila and "chicken scratch" in the family band known as "The Lopez Brothers and Gertie." In 2003 she formed "Gertie and the T.O. Boyz" and has written and recorded numerous songs. Lopez and the band will entertain with old-time waila sounds, featuring Gertie on vocals and accordion and fellow musicians on bass, guitar, and drums.
