Celebrated for more than 40 years, Anza Days 2017 will reflect a new emphasis on historical accuracy and educational engagement. This family-focused event at Tubac Presidio State Historic Park commemorates the most significant event in Tubac's history, when Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza made the 1775 overland expedition from what is now Southern Arizona to the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy living history presentations with costumed horseback riders executing cavalry drills. The Anza riders will assemble along with a host of imaginary settlers and livestock and proceed to the steps of St. Ann's Church, where they will receive a blessing for the journey and head out toward La Canoa. At 10 a.m. - noon, the Anza Discovery Program will take place with costumes, activities, props, ponies and photo ops designed to engage young children in exploring the area's history.
