This grassy meadow area surrounded by fir and spruce on the eastern border of the state is a great destination for fresh powder. Due to its high altitude (around 9,000 feet), it's one of the first places in the state where snow falls in the winter, and one of the last places it melts in the spring. Cross-country ski trails serve as mountain biking trails in the warmer months, and there are hiking trails and campgrounds as well. Phone the Alpine Ranger District at 928-339-5000 for information. Rustic Hannagan Meadow Lodge, located next to the Blue Range Primitive Area, offers cabins for rent and a dining room and general store. Phone 928-339-4370 or see www.hannaganmeadow.com.
